Fox and Friends Pagan/Wiccan University Missouri Fail

24 Feb

On February 17, 2013 a disturbing segment was aired on the Fox network’s popular morning show, FOX AND FRIENDS.  The segment was hosted by the following 3 individuals. TUCKER CARLSON, ALISYN CAMEROTA, and CLAYTON MORRIS

The segment centers on the University of Missouri’s, MU Guide to Religions, and the fact that the guide includes Pagans/Wiccans. In the first minute of the segment Mr Carlson states…“The bad side of Wiccanism is, it’s obviously a form of Witchcraft, but the upside is, you get a ton of holidays. 20% of all school holidays as described by the University of Missouri are Wiccan holidays. 20% of all!”   During this, FOX AND FRIENDS places a blue banner stating TESTY SITUATION? “MU”: NO EXAMS ON WICCAN & PAGAN HOLIDAYS.

In the next section they bring up a clip with a women named TAMMY BRUCE, taped earlier in the day. Now, I know i’m not the sharpest pencil in the box anymore, but I’ve listened to her statement about 10 times. I don’t have any idea what the woman is talking about, and I’m left drooling in a corner, waiting for someone to rescue me. When rescue finally came,( Lynn came home ) I played the clip a couple of times for Lynn, and she couldn’t get any further than I did. The only thing I took away from her segment was that Pagans/Wiccans are being used for a political agenda. We’ll, she was right. It’s just the agenda of FOX and FRIENDS. In this middle section a 2nd blue banner appears stating, HOLIDAY OBSERVATIONS. MISSOURI UNIVERSITY HONORS WICCANS & PAGANS. The banner for the remainder of segment is, UNIVERSITY’S RELIGION

Before giving you the remainder of asinine statements, (They end the segment with a little women bashing ) I’ll give you some numbers. In the MU guide there are 47 listed holidays. One of the main reasons for this guide is to described actions associated with the holidays, and provide RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATIONS.
Of the 47 listed holidays, ONLY 8 ( NOT 20 ) are Pagan / Wiccan.  Now, remember that 1st blue banner….TESTY SITUATION? “MU”: NO EXAMS ON WICCAN & PAGAN HOLIDAYS?  Out of all the religions listed in this guide, (14 others as follows: Hindu, Islamic, Jewish, Buddhist, Sikhism, Jainism, Baha’i, Shinto, Christian, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Eastern Orthodox Christian, Confucian, and Taoist)……Wait for it…….wait…..Pagan / Wiccan…..ARE THE ONLY, let’s read that again, THE ONLY, listed religions, that DO NOT HAVE….what’s that you say……DO NOT HAVE any  RECOMMENDED ACCOMMODATIONS! So who’s political agenda A$$ did they pull that out of?

Now let’s get back to the tale of the tape, so to speak. CAMEROTA plays off  Tammy Bruce’s wrap up by saying, and somehow, if you’re Christian in this country, too, you can’t say Merry Christmas to someone or else you’re trying to push your Christian faith on to people. Then the party really gets started! It’s hard to believe that the following dialog actually occurs.

MORRIS:… Right, but you get 20 holidays now if you are a Wiccan. That’s the one to go with right? If you’re gonna pick one, go with the one that has the most holidays.
CARLSON:Accept, any religion who’s most sacred day is Halloween, I just can’t take seriously.

Me:…( Yes, cause honoring one’s dead is a big joke! As compared to other religion’s most sacred day, Easter, where the undead springs forth and hangs out for another 39 days. (& I served the Roman Catholic Church for years, so I can go there. )

CARLSON:… I mean, I, call me a bigot, I’m not offering an editorial against Wiccanism.
MORRIS:… Well. that would be more the pagan side right, would be, would be Halloween.
CARLSON:… How many Wiccans can name every Wiccan holiday? Or 50% of Wiccan holidays.
MORRIS:… (as coming to some sort of defense of Wiccans / Pagans Goes into a past story he was involved in, where he interviewed a number of Wiccans , ending with a quote of a wiccan saying) “We are the most peaceful individuals. We don’t practice crazy things, we just of the Earth”
CARLSON:… Every Wiccan I’ve known, is either compulsive Dungeons and Dragons player or is a MIDDLE AGED, TWICE DIVORCED, OLDER WOMAN, living in a rural area who works as a midwife. (At least CAMEROTA looked horrified for a second ) But seriously, WTF?
MORRIS:… And likes a lot of incense
CARLSON:Yeah, Totally.
MORRIS:Yeah, yeah, that’s right

The segment has stirred up emotions from all walks of life. Here is a link to an online petition with over 31,000 signatures.

The following are the Twitter accounts if you want to tweet a message.

On February 19th, Tucker Carlson Tweeted the following apology……To Wiccans and pagans: Sorry for my pointlessly nasty remarks. Your holidays still confuse me, but you seem like nice people.

I did not see any statements from Fox, Morris, or Camerota.

Today Tucker Carlson made a public statement on Fox and Friends.  It was titled

Tucker Carlson addresses Wiccan comments.  Here is link to the video.

It seemed to me that he wasn’t apologizing for his statements about Wiccans and University of Missouri.  He apologized for breaking one of his life rules of Live and let live.  He at least made a statement.

I’m still waiting for a statement from  FOX and Friends, Clayton Morris for his inaccurate statements, and Alisyn Camerota for laughing along.  I could not find one.  If you come across one, please let me know.

A new tweet to copy and paste…..

@foxandfriends  @AlisynCamerota @ClaytonMorris Where is your apology to Women, Pagans/Wiccans TY @TuckerCarlson tried  @BewitchedSalem

Do you think this whole thing is ridiculous?

Do you feel apologies are warranted here?

Do you feel Tucker Carlson’s statement was an apology?

Thanks for reading my writings
